The 4th DECHEMA-PRAXISforum “Enzymes for Industrial Applications” offers industry professionals a platform to discuss the latest developments in enzyme technology and biocatalysis. It is the chance to meet solution providers, key customers and users of enzymes and learn about new products, services and process and production technologies.

André was invited to present the CASCAT approach on chemical-enzymatic reaction cascades for industrial applications. In this context there were fruitful discussion on our carbohydrate-based reaction cascades towards industrial products.

With EUR 3.7M for academia and industry INTERfaces intends to pave the way for enzymatic based sustainable production of chemicals. Under the lead of Prof. Selin Kara from Aarhus University Denmark, 21 European industries and universities are teamed up in this project to create natural and sustainable chemical products by mimicking the metabolism of living organisms.

“Successful applied science not only needs to be interdisciplinary but should also be at the interface between ground-breaking research and industrial implementation. Therefore, the strong involvement of three large companies and ten high-tech start-ups is crucial to achieve our goals in this project” is said by the project leader Prof. Selin Kara.

The project will be upscaled in collaboration with the industrial sector. For this, a total of 9 academic institutions and 13 private sector organisations, ranging from high-tech SMEs to large-scale production companies, are taking part in the project from Jan. 2020 – Dec. 2023 on. We are proud to be part of this highly innovative project, and to contribute by our experience and expertise for transferring enzymatic reaction cascades towards industrial applications.

Under the theme: Enzymes – Nothing works without them, represented André, CASCAT in a lecture series at the German Biotechnology Days 2019 at the 10th of April in Würzburg. Together with the companies C-Lecta (Marc Struhalla) and Novozyems (Klaus Pellengahr), as well as Prof. Dr. med. Jürgen Seibel (University of Würzburg) the experts presented and discussed the need and opportunities for the industrial establishment of novel enzyme reactions and cascades. Moderated by Andreas Löffert (Biocampus Straubing GmbH), this was an extremely exciting lecture series on the potential of enzymatic reaction cascades for industrial applications. It turned out that multi-stage enzyme cascades are gaining ground and gaining more and more profitability in order to replace established processes in the market, or even to establish new processes. Thus, we continue to be at the forefront of development with the philosophy of CASCAT.
